Conducting business for 24-hours will increase revenue - RC Chalamila
24 February, 2025
The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Hon. Albert Chalamila, has stated that once the city starts operating 24-hours businesses, the revenue of businesspeople will increase along with the overall growth of the country's economy, due to the expansion of business opportunities.
He made these comments on February 18, 2025, during a visit to the Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, at his office. He explained that the launch of 24-hours business operations is expected to take place on February 27 of this year.
Hon. Chalamila mentioned that they expect the number of businesspeople to increase by implementing 24-hours business operations in various areas of Dar es Salaam, which will expand the tax collection base for TRA.
He added that under the established procedure, all businesses will be registered and issued with licenses by the local authorities and Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) by TRA, which will facilitate tax payment.
"To make this 24-hours business initiative successful, we have already started discussions with various stakeholders, including transportation providers, so that they can also begin when we launch," said RC Chalamila.
He further explained that the decision to formalize 24-hours business operations was made due to the existence of certain areas that already operate overnight, and the availability of 24-hours bus transportation services, which create a demand for 24-hours transport and food services in Dar es Salaam.
The areas that will start 24-hours business operations include Kariakoo, Magufuli Terminal, Tandika, Mbagala, Bunju, Manzese, and Mwenge.
On his part, TRA Commissioner General Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, speaking during the meeting, affirmed that TRA is ready to cooperate with the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner’s office to ensure that businesses operate 24 hours.
Mr. Mwenda mentioned that by collaborating with the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner’s office, they will ensure business prosperity and stability, which will attract more people to engage in business.
He further emphasized that one of TRA's responsibilities is to oversee business growth, and wherever it affects creating a conducive environment for business, TRA is ready to assist in making sure there are favorable conditions for taxpayers to conduct their business.
End.
