14 August, 2025
The Board of Directors of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), led by its Chairman, Mr. Uledi Mussa, held a meeting to evaluate the performance of the fourth quarter of the 2024/25 financial year and to review the performance strategies set for the 2025/26 financial year.
The two days meeting was held on 11th and 12th August, 2025, at the Malaika Hotel in Mwanza City, involving board members and heads of TRA departments. In the meeting, the Board of Directors reviewed the performance and challenges encountered in the fourth quarter of the 2024/25 financial year.
Among the achievements highlighted was an increase in efficiency in revenue collection, where TRA surpassed its revenue collection target for that fourth quarter of the 2024/25 financial year covering April to June 2025 by collecting TZS 8.22 trillion, exceeding the target of TZS 7.84 trillion, equivalent to a performance rate of 104.8%.
Mr. Uledi Mussa commended TRA for its excellent performance and improvements in electronic systems, including the Tanzania Customs Integrated System (TANCIS), which has helped reduce face-to-face interactions between TRA employees and taxpayers, thereby increasing transparency and efficiency in customs services.
“TRA is in a position to lead national efforts in achieving sustainable development in Tanzania. The achievements from the past financial year should serve as motivation to work even harder to meet the goals of the 2025/26 financial year,” said Mr. Mussa.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed TRA’s strategies for the 2025/26 financial year, focusing on increasing revenue to meet the government’s set target of collecting TZS 36.2 trillion. Strategies set to achieve this goal include: expanding the tax base, strengthening electronic systems, tax education, and combating smuggling.
The TRA Board of Directors has established a system of meeting every quarter of the financial year to assess the institution’s performance and review strategies that will enable the organization to meet and surpass its collection targets.
