PRIME MINISTER CONGRATULATES TRA FOR SURPASSING THE REVENUE COLLECTION TARGET FOR THE 2024/25 FINANCIAL YEAR

The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa, has congratulated staff and leadership of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for their hard work and expertise, which has led to a historic achievement in revenue collection by surpassing the set targets for twelve consecutive months in the 2024/2025 financial year.

While opening the meeting to evaluate TRA's performance for the 2024/2025 financial year and setting strategies for the 2025/2026 financial year in Arusha on July 8, 2025, the Prime Minister stated that the success achieved by TRA was due to the collective effort of the staff and leadership. As a result, they have collected TZS 32.26 trillion, which is 103% of the target of TZS 31.5 trillion.

Prime Minister Majaliwa emphasized that the Government recognizes, respects, and values the significant work done by TRA and is ready to ammend any policy, legal, or procedural barriers, if any exist, to ensure TRA continues to perform well. He also conveyed greetings and congratulations from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The Prime Minister added that the visible successes indicate that TRA has continued to work with patriotism, which is the right way to achieve success.

"The Government will continue to offer support to TRA whenever necessary, so that it can continue performing well and help raise public awareness on the importance of paying taxes," the Prime Minister stated.

The Prime Minister directed TRA's investigation unit to monitor and identify foreign nationals conducting business in the country without paying taxes and take appropriate actions. He also encouraged Tanzanians to continue paying taxes voluntarily.

"Ensure that everyone who is supposed to pay taxes does so, regardless of their nationality. In other countries, the laws are strict, and if you evade taxes, you are considered an economic saboteur," said the Prime Minister.

On his part, the Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, recommended that tax-funded projects be marked with signs, a suggestion supported by the Prime Minister. He instructed regional commissioners to identify major projects funded by taxes in their areas to be marked with such signs.

Dr. Mwigulu emphasized the need to make Tanzanians understand that the development they see is a result of taxes and urged public institutions and civil servants to ensure they request receipts for every purchase they make to contribute to the country.

The Chairman of the TRA Board of Directors, Mr. Uledi Mussa, stated that the guidelines provided by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, on collecting taxes in a friendly environment have enabled TRA to exceed its targets for twelve consecutive months. He thanked taxpayers for continuing to cooperate with and trust TRA.

He mentioned that it is the President's vision to see Tanzania achieve budget independence, and this cannot be realized without efficient tax collection. Therefore, it is everyone's responsibility to understand the importance of paying taxes.

TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, expressed gratitude to taxpayers for enabling TRA to exceed the collection targets for the 2024/2025 financial year. He promised to continue listening to and addressing their challenges in a timely manner, as well as continuing to facilitate business in the country.

He also congratulated the TRA staff for their hard work, despite not being appreciated by thr public, and encouraged them to keep up the good work to reach the new target of TZS 36 trillion for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Commissioner General Mwenda thanked the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the government at large for enabling TRA to operate freely, providing it with guidelines, tools, and an increase in staff numbers.

The Regional Commissioner of Arusha, Hon. Kenani Kihongosi, also congratulated the TRA staff for their tremendous work, which has allowed them to exceed their collection targets. He noted that the revenue collected are expected to support the implementation of development projects in various sectors, including water, health, education, and infrastructure.

In other hand, during the meeting, TRA awarded a trophy to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, His Excellency Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, for their support in helping TRA fulfill its responsibilities and providing guidance that enabled TRA to exceed its targets. The trophies were presented by the Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, to the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa.

Prime Minister Majaliwa was also awarded a trophy in recognition of his ten consecutive years of excellent service as the Chief Executive of Government operations.
