“We will continue to promote business well-being in the country” - CG Mwenda

24 February, 2025

The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has stated that TRA will continue to oversee the well-being of businesses in the country by ensuring that no business fails, thus promoting the growth of the nation's economy.

Speaking to businesspeople in Singida on February 5, 2025, Mr. Mwenda emphasized that one of TRA’s key responsibilities is to facilitate the growth of businesses and create a conducive environment for doing business in the country.

"Without you, the businesspeople, TRA cannot exist. You are very important to us, and that’s why President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has entrusted us with the responsibility to protect businesses from failure, so we can continue to collect taxes," said Mr. Mwenda.

Mr. Mwenda instructed TRA Regional Managers to address the challenges facing businesspeople in their areas promptly and register new taxpayers to expand the tax base. This will help reduce tax rates and promote fairness in business competition.

He stressed that it is everyone’s responsibility to expose tax evaders, as these actions negatively affect every citizen by hindering development activities and exploiting the few taxpayers, which endangers business security.

While in Singida, the TRA Commissioner General awarded prizes to taxpayers who performed well in the 2024/2025 financial year and informed them that starting next financial year, these awards will be called Presidential Awards to highlight the importance of taxpayers in the country.

Mr. Mwenda stated that TRA will continue to provide tax education to businesspeople and service providers to ensure that everyone understands their responsibilities in paying taxes.

End.
