TRA OVERALL WINNER IN FINANCIAL STATEMENT PREPARATION – NBAA AWARDS 2025

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has emerged as the overall first winner in the award for the Preparation of Financial Statements that comply with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) for the year 2024, presented by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) on 04.12.2025 in Bunju, Dar es Salaam.
TRA also won first place in the Government Agency Category in these awards.
Speaking at the award-presentation ceremony, the Guest of Honour, Deputy Minister for Finance Hon. Laurent Luswetula, congratulated the institutions that won, noting that the ministry will continue to cooperate with NBAA to ensure the ongoing production of skilled accountants and auditors.
Hon. Luswetula added that the government will ensure NBAA remains strong so that it continues to produce competent professionals for the broader national interest.
Meanwhile, TRA Deputy Commissioner General Mr. Mcha Hassan Mcha said the awards they received are highly significant, as they demonstrate TRA’s performance and how it is internationally recognized.
He also stated that the awards highlight the expertise and creativity displayed by the authority’s employees.
“These awards are very important to us; they help show that our performance is internationally acknowledged and they assure taxpayers that every shilling collected reaches the Government’s Consolidated Fund,” he said.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioner General Mcha thanked taxpayers for continuing to pay taxes voluntarily, noting that TRA exceeded its revenue collection targets for the 2024/25 financial year, and for the current 2025/26 financial year TRA has continued to exceed targets up to November 2025.
“We are very grateful to taxpayers for the great effort they made during the previous financial year, in which we surpassed our targets, and for this financial year we have also surpassed monthly targets up to November,” Mr. Mcha added.
For her part, NBAA Board Chairperson Professor Slyivia Temu said a total of 86 public and private institutions participated in assessing the quality of their financial reporting for 2024.
NBAA Executive Director Mr. Pius Maneno said the aim of the awards is to ensure that the financial statements presented are transparent and accountable.
He explained that the awards cover financial statements for the period from January 2024 to December 2024, which were prepared in accordance with international accounting standards and received unqualified (clean) audit opinions.
