TRA LAUNCHES MOBILE OFFICES TO BRING SERVICES CLOSER TO CITIZENS
02 March, 2026
The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has launched special vehicles for providing tax services, popularly known as “mobile offices,” with the aim of further improving tax service delivery by bringing services closer to citizens.
While launching the vehicles on February 25, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, the Minister of Finance, Khamis Mussa Omar, said the initiative is part of implementing directives issued by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, to ensure tax services are brought closer to the people. He noted that the vehicles will help expand the scope of tax service delivery and simplify tax payments across the country.
He explained that the two vehicles that will operate as “mobile offices,” launched alongside 72 other tax service vehicles, will encourage voluntary tax compliance since services will reach citizens wherever they are, without requiring them to travel long distances.
“I commend TRA for this innovation of reaching out to citizens in their respective areas. This will accelerate tax compliance and increase revenue collection, enabling Tanzania to achieve greater economic self-reliance, as we all have a responsibility to contribute to national revenue,” said Ambassador Khamis.
Earlier, speaking at the event, the Chairman of the TRA Board of Directors, Uledi Mussa Abasi, stated that the initiative is part of the Authority’s strategies to work more closely with citizens and improve tax services.
On his part, the TRA Commissioner General, Yusuph Juma Mwenda, said the launch of the mobile office vehicles and other tax service vehicles is among the strategies to strengthen services for taxpayers. He emphasized that it is part of implementing the President’s directive to continue bringing tax services closer to the public.
He added that through the two mobile office vehicles and the 72 tax service vehicles, TRA will be able to reach taxpayers and provide all tax-related services in their respective locations.
“These vehicles are fully equipped offices that will provide all services available at other TRA offices. I urge citizens to make use of these mobile offices to access tax services,” he said.
Some residents of Dar es Salaam who attended the launch of the TRA mobile offices said the initiative will simplify service delivery by providing services within their areas instead of requiring them to visit TRA offices.
Speaking at different times after the launch of the two mobile offices in the Mwenge and Tegeta areas of Dar es Salaam—alongside the 72 other tax service vehicles that cost a total of 24 billion Tanzanian shillings—citizens commended TRA for bringing services closer to them.
They said that through these vehicles, businesspeople who have not yet obtained Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) will be registered and integrated into the tax system, thereby broadening the tax base and increasing government revenue.
“We appreciate the launch of these offices. We believe they will reach us traders at Tegeta Nyuki market and enable us to access tax services, including obtaining TINs,” said Omar Hemed, a trader from Tegeta.
“We request that these mobile office services reach us motorcycle riders (bodaboda) at the Mabwepande junction so that we can easily obtain TINs and driving licenses,” said the Chairperson of bodaboda riders in Mabwepande.
In Mwenge, a trader identified as Ali Hamidu said the launch of the mobile office services will be a solution to the challenge of traveling long distances to access tax services.
The two vehicles launched are part of ten mobile office vehicles that TRA plans to purchase to expand the scope of tax service delivery. The total value of all vehicles handed over on that day is 24 billion Tanzanian shillings.
The launch event was attended by leaders of business associations, including JWT and JWK, who, on behalf of other businesspeople, pledged to continue cooperating with TRA on all tax-related matters to promote voluntary tax compliance.
