The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has recognized retired TRA employees for their outstanding contribution to the Authority’s three decades of success and urged them to serve as Tax Ambassadors by promoting tax awareness and encouraging voluntary tax compliance across the country.

Mr. Mwenda made the remarks during an appreciation ceremony held in Dar es Salaam, June 26, 2026 to honor retired TRA staff for their dedicated service. The event was part of the activities marking the 30th Anniversary of the Tanzania Revenue Authority since its establishment and the lead-up to the inaugural Presidential Taxpayer Awards, which are scheduled to be presented on 1 July 2026 at the Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mwenda said TRA deeply values and appreciates the contribution of its retirees, noting that they laid the strong foundation upon which the Authority has built its achievements over the past 30 years.

He emphasised that the Authority’s current success cannot be separated from the commitment, professionalism, and dedication of the men and women who previously served the institution.

“We invited you today to express our sincere appreciation for the remarkable service you rendered throughout the 30-year journey of TRA. We would not be celebrating these achievements today without your invaluable contribution while serving the nation,” said Mr. Mwenda.

He further noted that Tanzania has made significant progress in economic growth and domestic revenue mobilization, enabling the Government to strengthen its capacity to finance national development and advance the country’s self-reliance agenda.

On his part, the Chairperson of the TRA Retirees Association, Mr. Julius Ceazar, thanked the Commissioner General for bringing the retirees together and commended TRA for its continued outstanding performance in revenue collection, which has consistently resulted in new milestones.

Mr. Ceazar said the retirees are proud to have been part of the institution’s journey and to have contributed to the achievements that have enabled TRA to celebrate 30 years of excellence while playing a pivotal role in financing Government development programmes.

“Together, we are proud to be part of TRA’s 30-year legacy. We have also witnessed the growing trust and stronger relationship between TRA and taxpayers, which has significantly enhanced voluntary tax compliance,” he said.

The retirees expressed their appreciation for being entrusted with the responsibility of serving as Tax Ambassadors and pledged to carry out the role with integrity, professionalism, and dedication, helping to promote a culture of voluntary tax compliance throughout the country.
