The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has emphasized the importance of private sector engagement in strengthening Tanzania’s tax system and creating a more supportive environment for business growth and investment.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ workshop that brought together TRA officials, private sector representatives, and development partners at Four Points by Sheraton Dar es Salaam, Mr. Mwenda said constructive dialogue with businesses plays a vital role in shaping effective tax policies and improving revenue administration in the country.

He noted that TRA continues to modernize its service delivery systems and strengthen collaboration with both the private sector and development partners as part of ongoing efforts to improve efficiency in government revenue collection.

According to Mr. Mwenda, feedback and recommendations from stakeholders are essential in refining tax laws, policies, and administrative procedures to ensure they respond to the realities of the business environment while supporting national economic growth.

He further stated that the growing partnership between TRA and the private sector has helped increase awareness on tax matters and encouraged voluntary tax compliance among taxpayers, contributing significantly to higher government revenues and a stronger economy.

The TRA Commissioner General added that the authority remains committed to listening to business stakeholders and incorporating their views in order to build a tax system that is transparent, fair, and efficient.

Meanwhile, the President of the Tanzania National Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TNCCIA), Vicent Minja, commended TRA for creating a platform that allows the private sector to participate in discussions related to taxation and trade, describing the move as important in improving the country’s investment climate.

A representative from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany also highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Government, private sector, and development partners in strengthening tax systems and promoting inclusive economic growth in Tanzania.
