OVER 300 INSTITUTIONS TO BE CONNECTED TO THE IDRAS SYSTEM

21 January, 2026

The Commissioner for Domestic Revenue from the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Alfred Mregi, has said that the new Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS) will connect the systems of more than 300 institutions and simplify all tax payment procedures.

Speaking today, 21/1/2026, during a training seminar on the new system held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam, Commissioner Mregi said that IDRAS will be an integrated system that will incorporate more than 300 systems from various institutions across the country, thereby simplifying all tax payment procedures for taxpayers.

“One institution may have a system with more than one interface (integration), so you can see that we will be connecting many systems—possibly more than three hundred,” said Commissioner Mregi.

He explained that by the time the system is launched, more than 60 institutions whose systems have two or more interfaces will already have been connected, and immediately after the official launch the systems will be ready to start operating.

Commissioner Mregi emphasized that stakeholders and taxpayers should ensure they set aside sufficient time to attend the two-day training sessions organized for this system, so as to gain adequate understanding of how to use IDRAS.

He added that the system will be used for all tax-related activities, including registration, submission of returns, tax assessments, tax payments, all objection processes, tax appeals, debt management, as well as the management of risk indicators.

“This system will also integrate all procedures related to tax reliefs and exemptions, as well as modules for motor vehicles and driving licences,” said Commissioner Alfred Mregi.

On her part, the Representative of the Dar es Salaam Regional Business Community, Ms. Pendo Lucas, commended TRA for developing this new system, acknowledging that it will reduce many tax-related challenges, including issues related to tax assessments for businesspeople. She advised tax stakeholders and taxpayers to actively participate in the training sessions in order to gain sufficient understanding of how to use the system.

The IDRAS system is expected to be officially launched on February 9, 2026, for nationwide use, and it will integrate all domestic tax collection systems. The system has been developed over a period of more than two years until its completion.
