The Danish Ambassador to Tanzania, Jesper Kammersgaard, has commended the decline in tax-related complaints in the country, attributing the progress to the Tanzania Revenue Authority’s (TRA) efforts to bring services closer to taxpayers, listen to their concerns, and address challenges in a timely manner.
The Ambassador made the remarks in Dar es Salaam during a meeting with the Commissioner General of TRA, Yusuph Juma Mwenda, noting that the recent stability in tax matters reflects growing confidence and satisfaction among both domestic and international taxpayers with the services provided by the Authority.
He further reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Tanzania through TRA, particularly in areas such as taxpayer education, combating tax evasion, and enhancing the use of modern tax administration systems.
On his part, Commissioner General Mwenda highlighted the strong and longstanding partnership between Tanzania and Denmark, noting that TRA has benefited from capacity-building initiatives that have strengthened staff skills in various aspects of tax administration. He added that the Authority will continue to facilitate trade and investment between the two countries to support economic growth.
Mwenda also underscored the significant progress made in adopting digital systems, including IDRAS for domestic revenue and TANCIS for customs operations, which have simplified tax processes and improved service delivery. He emphasized that TRA will continue to strengthen international cooperation by exchanging expertise with global tax institutions, including the Danish Tax Agency, particularly in tax administration, the digital economy, and cybersecurity, to ensure Tanzania keeps pace with international standards in tax management.
