CHINESE GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS TANZANIA TO EXPAND TAX BASE
13 November, 2025
In strengthening the long-standing cooperation between Tanzania and China, the Government of China, through its Embassy in Tanzania, has donated tablets to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA). These devices will be used to register taxpayers directly from their business locations, a move aimed at broadening the taxpayer base and increasing government revenue.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held on November 12, 2025, in Dar es Salaam between the Chinese Ambassador, H.E. Chen Mingjian, and the Commissioner General of TRA, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, CG Mwenda said the donation will enhance TRA’s efficiency in reaching citizens and simplifying the registration of new taxpayers.
He emphasized that as the number of taxpayers increases, the tax burden on individuals decreases, and the nation’s revenue base becomes stronger. He therefore urged citizens to come forward and register when approached.
For her part, Ambassador Chen Mingjian said the donation is part of strengthening the cooperation between China and Tanzania, adding that there are many Chinese investors benefiting from TRA services, hence it is important to continue supporting this key institution for Tanzania’s economic development.
