17 September, 2026
The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has met with the management of Twiga Cement in Dar es Salaam to address concerns surrounding cement prices in the country.
Mr. Mwenda said TRA has a responsibility to facilitate business and will continue working closely with manufacturers to address tax-related challenges and other issues that may affect business operations. He said the Authority will also continue monitoring the cement production and distribution chain to identify challenges that may affect the sector and the market.
During the visit, the Commissioner General toured the Twiga Cement plant, where he observed the cement production process and the company’s ongoing operations.
For his part, the Senior Manager of Twiga and Simba Cement, Eng. Danford Semwenda, said the company has not increased the price of cement and that production is continuing as normal. He said the company has been monitoring market price trends and established that the prices of cement at its factories have remained unchanged.
Eng. Semwenda added that the company continues to produce and distribute cement at the prevailing prices while closely monitoring developments in the market. Twiga Cement and Tanga Cement are among the major cement producers in Tanzania.
